Until then Roman infantry will beat yours at each tier so rely on cav and mercs. Carthage can get Sacred Band in 15 - 20 turns. Many enemies, often completely surrounded and forced into multiple front wars, so why is Carthage so high up the list? Its like swatting mosquitoes, that's why. Be prepared! Also Armenia may attack the behind so watch out there too, maybe expand there eventually.ħ) Carthage: Moderately easy, as the descriptions says. As with playing any faction in the East, Egypt will fuck you up. But fighting Egypt is a pain, hell fighting Pontus is a pain.Ħ) Pontus: 'But I don't want to play as Pontus!!!' One of the stronger eastern factions, economy is not brilliant but taking Asia minor is easy which will give you a foothold onto Europe. By far the richest Roman faction, yes Scipii or Julii can take Carthage, but imagine 5 or 6 'Carthages' in Greece ripe for the taking, plus all of the Wonders lie in the east. Greek phalanx takes much longer to kill than Carthage's or Gaul's units, but nothing good Roman steel can't handle. You could also take Dacia, and Carthage to force Scipii out of Western Europe.ĥ) Brutii: Hardest Roman campaign. Slow steady expansion, since Gaul is massive and youll have to deal with Britannia and Spain. Plus Numidia is free territory as far as I'm concerned.Ĥ) Julii: Roman infantry beat everything at the same tier as Barbarians, plus once you get the Marian reforms you get several tiers higher that they cannot attain. Extremely rich early on as well, very varied roster that can counter everything. Doesn't make much of a difference, though expansion is slower. My short campaign was finished in 17 years.ģ) Egypt: Again with the chariots autoresolve, but this time the Seleucids are stronger than Gaul or Germania. Numidia is even weaker than Carthage, just bring shit tonnes of cav and they can't do anything. Romans have the best infantry early campaign. Then you have 1 enemy, Carthage, which has crappy 2nd and 3rd tier units. Extremely rapid expansion.Ģ) Sicipii: Very easy start, Syracuse has a weak garrison and you don't have to worry about Greece after that. 1 or 2 enemies, Gaul or Germania, plus chariots have a massive autoresolve modifier, meaning single generals can take cities by themselves early game. OK this is my ranking based on 1400 hours and finishing half the factions long campaigns.ġ) Britannia: Easy pezzy. Think we missed one?
